The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, has called on elected office holders and stakeholders to prioritise service delivery and good governance.
Addressing the 8th Session of the Rural Women Parliament with Men as Partners, Sankwasa expressed that some leaders, once elected, abandon the needs of the people who voted them into office.
Sankwasa warned that leaders should stop misusing government resources for personal gain and focus on strengthening unity among citizens.
Sankwasa also praised women in leadership, arguing that they often demonstrate more responsibility than their male counterparts.
The minister emphasised that leaders can only achieve good governance when they prioritise national needs over self-interest to enhance service delivery.
The Rural Women Parliament with Men as Partners (RWP) is a shadow parliament of the National Council. It provides an interactive platform to empower rural women by enabling them and their male partners to debate and discuss matters of national interest that affect their livelihoods.
This year's theme is “Breaking Barriers to Economic Inclusion: Advancing Sustainable Support and Opportunities for Rural Women and Men”.
