The Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi, has explained that he reappointed the same delegates from the Transport Commission for a period of six months until the Public Enterprises Governance Act had been finalised.
This was his response to Swapo Party MP Salomon April, who questioned why candidates from other regions were not considered in the appointment process.
"For me, what I see is a rampant disregard for the pain of those who feel they are left out. I want the minister to please tell me why he proceeded to appoint the same sort of problem that we are currently still waiting to get the response on," said April.
Nekundi responded that, due to the transitional period as far as the Public Enterprises Governance Act is concerned, a decision was made not to appoint new delegates.
"The decision was made that we must not appoint a new presence. We are going to appoint a temporary vote for a period of six months or less, depending on how quickly we are going to finalise the PEGA that is on the floor of this Parliament. Therefore, the vote appointed yesterday is the same as the one that was previously appointed. So this is just a continuation for us not to contradict the proposition as presented."
Nekundi pointed out that once the Public Enterprises Governance Act is finalised by this Parliament, then the board will be appointed.
