The SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation says the region deeply regrets the loss of life, injuries, and property destruction resulting from the demonstrations in Madagascar.
In a statement, the Organ's Chairperson and Malawian President Peter Mutharika said the tragic events undermine the core values of peace, unity, and democracy which form the bedrock of regional vision.
Mutharika urged maximum restraint and upholding of constitutional governance.
"As part of efforts aimed at facilitating an early return to order in Madagascar and ending the crisis, the SADC Organ stands ready to work in close collaboration with national authorities and partners to facilitate dialogue," said Mutharika.
The SADC Organ's position comes as Madagascar's President Andry Rajoelina fled the country, stating that it was due to attempts on his life after an army unit joined the weeks-long Gen Z protests and claimed that it had taken over the country.
President Rajoelina, who is also the Chair of SADC, addressed the citizens from an undisclosed location on Tuesday and dissolved the parliament.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties in Parliament had united with more than 130 votes to impeach the President.
