Grootfontein Mayor Talitha Garises has inaugurated the Omulunga Mall, which is nearing completion at Omulunga Location.
Garises said the mall is a testament to development efforts aimed at uplifting the town's image and positioning it as an emerging hub for investment and commercial growth.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Garises said infrastructure developments, such as the mall and the construction of the stormwater drainage system, demonstrate the town council's broader commitments to transforming Grootfontein.
"The establishment of this mall brings with it numerous benefits. First and foremost, it will create much-needed jobs for our residents, offering opportunities to our youth, women, and men who are eager to contribute to the local economy. Secondly, the mall introduces a new level of economic activity, attracting businesses, increasing consumer options, and keeping revenue in town."
Garises added that a traffic circle will be set up near the mall to improve traffic flow.
GAIA Group Public Relations Officer Salome Bester said the company will also develop the sports field at Omulunga.
The mall is expected to officially open in March 2026.
"Omulunga is more than just a shopping centre. It symbolises the growth of job creation and what we can achieve when we invest in our towns and each other. With this development, we are not only bringing new shops and services closer to home, but we are also creating a true meeting place for Grootfontein," said Bester.
Garises also inaugurated a private lodge that the group built. Lodge Etale, located at the town's southern entry point, is set to open in January 2026.
