The De Beers Group, in collaboration with a visiting United States media delegation, hosted a two-day media experience aimed at strengthening storytelling partnerships between Namibia and the U.S.

The engagement brought together Namibian and American storytellers to spotlight key national narratives and highlight the depth, potential, and global significance of Namibia's diamond industry.

Journalists, writers, jewellers, designers and diamond enthusiasts who formed part of the delegation engaged directly with local media, exchanged perspectives, and collectively amplified Namibian stories to both local and global audiences.

The Executive Chairperson of the One Economy Foundation, Monica Geingos, emphasised the urgency of narrowing the gap between the first and second economies.

"Diamonds account for about 50% of our export earnings. So diamonds now face the challenge of environmental concerns, synthetic diamonds and many other factors that are driving the declining sales. And to us, it's a tension between environmental concerns and also a tension around economic progression," said Geingos. She added that losing 50% of export earnings in the second most unequal country will severely affect the country and cause more young people to fall through the cracks.

The Media Journey featured several stops, including the #BeFree Campus, a tour of the NDTC and Tate Diamonds, where guests observed cutting and polishing processes.

American storytellers also shared insights on the importance of collaboration and what excites them most about the experience.

The tour concluded at WestAir Aviation at the Eros Airport.
