Public transport fares have increased significantly at this time of the year. Travellers say the prices are above the normal rates, particularly at loading zones in the city.
Some passengers travelling from Windhoek to the northern regions, as well as coastal towns, expressed frustration, stating they could no longer afford the amounts being charged, ranging from N$450 to N$500.
Some reported being charged extra for luggage, even when the luggage was within reasonable limits, between N$50 and N$100.
Passengers contend that the explanation of these additional charges is often unclear and varies across different vehicles.
Meanwhile, one of the bus operators, Immanuel Erasmus, is thrilled that some customers pay full festive season fare without excuses.
Bus operators are now asking between N$400 and N$500 to the northern regions as a festive season price, compared to the normal price ranging between N$350 and N$380.
For those going to Rundu, the prices have increased from N$350 to N$400, while the coastal prices have increased from N$200 to N$270.
