The Chief Medical Officer in the Kunene Region, Mugisha Barongo, has said the establishment of the Kaoko-Otavi Correctional Facility clinic speaks to the decentralisation of essential services and ensuring equitable access to healthcare.
The facility will provide services that include health screening and vaccination programmes.
Dr. Barongo said the clinic will significantly reduce the financial and logistical burden associated with long-distance provision of health care services to inmates and to the surrounding community.
"The Ministry of Health and Social Services remains fully committed to providing ongoing technical support and any necessary assistance to ensure that the objectives of this clinic are successfully achieved. Through our continued collaboration, we will work together to improve health outcomes for all Namibians."
Kaoko-Otavi residents welcomed the clinic's opening.
