A 27-year-old male driver was arrested in the early hours of Thursday following an alleged horrific double hit-and-run incident on the Hosea Kutako Drive that claimed the life of an unidentified pedestrian.

According to the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the incident occurred at around 01h21 when the pedestrian was reportedly struck by a silver Audi A4 and died instantly.

She said another vehicle consequently ran over the body, and both drivers allegedly fled the scene without ascertaining the injuries caused.

The Audi driver, she noted, was later traced and apprehended by police officers on duty behind Hakahana Service Station in Katutura.

“An alcohol test was done on the driver, and it tested 0.18. He holds a valid driver's C1 licence, and he was arrested,” Shikwambi said.

The deceased is an adult male whose identity is still unknown, and police efforts to notify next of kin are ongoing.

At the same scene, a secondary accident occurred when a Toyota Passo driver attempted to avoid running over the body and came to a complete stop. A silver Honda taxi that was travelling behind the Toyota then collided with it. “Both drivers of said vehicles fled the scene,” Shikwambi noted.

Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
