China and Russia were swift in their condemnation, with China saying such hegemonic actions violate international law and Venezuelan sovereignty, threatening peace and security in the Latin American and Caribbean region.
Cuba says the cowardly US aggression is a criminal act, violating international law and the UN Charter.
The Cuban government has demanded the immediate release by U.S. authorities of President Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
South Africa has also called for an urgent session of the UN Security Council, saying the USA's unilateral military action against Venezuela undermines the stability of the international order and the principle of equality among all nations.
Mexico and other nations were also united in condemning the actions of the US.
Non-governmental bodies such as the Institute for Policy Research, based in Malaysia, have called on the UN Security Council to order an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of US military from Venezuela.
It has also demanded immediate international access to President Maduro and all detained officials to ensure their safety and physical integrity, in accordance with the Geneva Conventions.
The International Policy Research body says the world must realise that if the sovereignty of one nation is allowed to be dismantled by force today, the sovereignty of all nations is at risk, saying the era of imperialist dictates must end.
Newly elected New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani says in a post on X that "unilaterally attacking a sovereign nation is an act of war and a violation of federal and international law."
