The !Khara-Khoen community in  the Hardap Region has received a shot in the arm in their quest to become crop producers and ensure food self-sustainability.

The Hardap Governor's Office has injected N$50,000 into the !Khara-Khoen Traditional Authority's agricultural project.

This includes fencing and building material.

Hardap governor, Riaan McNab, highlighted the importance of agriculture as a key pillar in the government's national development agenda.

"We want to say it is really for us a privilege to donate and to assist the chief and community for the good efforts that have been started to strengthen so that the communities can benefit from the crop production and that our people can sustain themselves."

A community member Dawid Hanse expressed their gratitude.

"Our aim is to eventually supply the whole of Namibia with our produce. I also want to highlight that I have seen how Chief Fillemon Nangolo has been running a similar project successfully in the north of the country. We are therefore keen to visit the project to benchmark and gain insights on its success. In this regard, we kindly request financial assistance to facilitate the benchmark visit, enabling our young people to firsthand learn how such projects are effectively managed and sustained."

Governor McNab expressed optimism that the initiative will serve as a model for other communities to improve their livelihoods.
