President of Madagascar, Michael Randrianirina, appointed Mamitiana Rajaonarison, the former head of the country's anti-corruption agency, as prime minister following the dismissal of the entire government last week.
Randrianirina instructed the new prime minister to form a government as quickly as possible, with a focus on implementing state reform policies and delivering tangible results that citizens can quickly feel.
"To ensure the progress of our country and protect its interests, I, together with the competent authorities designated by the Constitution, appoint Mr Rajoanarison Mamitiana Jeannot Ruffin as Prime Minister and head of the government. At this moment, I would like to address you personally, Mr Prime Minister. Many duties and responsibilities await you. First, you must form the new government as quickly as possible. Then, together with the members of this new government, you will be responsible for implementing the state's reform policies. I, along with the Malagasy people, expect rapid and concrete results. You are also required to unite all the different forces across the entire island. Show the Malagasy people that this country needs honest individuals – people who cannot be influenced or bought."
