Budget allocation of over N$1.5 billion to vote for veterans has been approved in the National Assembly for the 2026/2027 financial year.
However, MPs stated that many veterans remain undocumented and are not granted the status; therefore, they do not qualify to benefit from veteran projects.
This in turn subjects them to poverty and makes them unable to provide for their families.
Deputy Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs Charles Mubita responded, stating that over 11 thousand registered veterans are still to be paid out, for which the ministry would require about one comma nine million dollars.
"Allocation of funds was not forthcoming, as it should have been. But I'm happy that at least during the 2025-2026 financial year, we managed to pay a record number compared to previous years, a record number of 1,840 veterans. And that was an allocation given to us in the last financial year of N$313 million, so the outstanding veterans will be catered to. It is our wish to agree with the honourable opinion that the Veterans Fund needs to be used optimally."
