Alcohol was a contributing factor in a number of incidents reported in the ||Kharas Region over the Easter holiday.

Deputy Commissioner Nicodemus Mbango, the head of the Crime Investigations Division for the ||Kharas Region, expressed concern over several recorded cases of drinking and driving. He noted that some incidents, particularly assault cases, along with two rapes, were also linked to the abuse of alcohol.

The office of the public prosecutor at Karasburg was also broken into and set alight.

"Luckily, it was not totally burned; we were able to retrieve court documents that were kept in that office, and I can confirm to you that there are no high-profile cases that were destroyed by the flames."

Mbango further stated that several motor vehicle accidents recorded involved a relatively high number of individuals; however, no fatalities were reported. Instead, there were serious injuries, with approximately nine people among the 22 passengers or occupants involved sustaining significant injuries.
