The calls to maintain unity in diversity were also echoed at the 111th commemoration of the Battle of Sam !Khubis, as President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah encouraged Namibians to participate in cultural and historical events across the country.
“One of the greatest strengths of our country is our diversity. Namibia is home to many communities, languages, traditions, and historical experiences,” said Nandi-Ndaitwah.
The President said attending commemorations and cultural gatherings beyond one's own communities creates opportunities to understand one another’s pain, struggles, victories and traditions.
“Too often, we remain strangers to one another’s histories, and in that distance, stereotypes and misunderstandings can easily grow,” she said.
The commemoration, held at the historic Sam !Khubis site, about 80 kilometres outside Rehoboth, drew national leaders, including Vice-President Lucia Witbooi, who delivered Nandi-Ndaitwah’s address to the community.
