Residents of the Samora Machel Constituency have welcomed the opening of the Goreangab Mall, calling it a major step forward for the community.

Beyond convenience, residents say the mall brings local development by creating jobs, attracting business opportunities, and increasing economic activity close to home. Many noted that the new centre has reduced transport costs since they can now walk to the mall instead of travelling to the central business district or more distant shopping centres.

“For years, we had to travel long distances to access retail stores and services,” one resident said, adding that the development has improved accessibility and changed the landscape of Katutura, making shopping easier for the community.

“I am really excited that the mall is now close to us. We do not have to pay taxi fare anymore; we can just walk here to do our shopping,” one woman said.

Another resident said, “I am so happy because we no longer have to use taxis. If I need something, I can quickly come and buy it and even return. With my baby, we would have spent N$60 to go to town, but now we can walk here without spending a cent."

“I feel like it has reduced unemployment. It also cuts taxi fees since people no longer use N$15 to go to town; they will use it for something else here in the mall. We are really proud of the mall — if someone comes from another town, we’ll say, ‘Where do you live in Goreangab?' The only location with the mall in Windhoek,” a local woman said.

“It helps all the shops. There’s food, clothing, and sneakers. We like to look good and dress up. Everything is here. It’s a walk in the park for us now,” another resident said.

“Some of us like to do shopping; some of us don’t want to shop in other places because the variety here is huge,” one shopper added.
