The African Presidency Accountability Council (APAC) released its 2026 Mid-Year Report on governance, human rights, and political stability in Addis Ababa, ranking Malawi's President Arthur Peter Mutharika as the best-performing African president.

Core evaluation metrics include the assessment of measured executive delivery, commitment to citizens, democratic institutional respect, and crisis management.

On Food Security and Economy, APAC credited Mutharika's government with stabilising the domestic market, noting particular success in making staple food like maize accessible and affordable to citizens facing prior shortages.

President Mutharika has beaten a number of African presidents on delivery and commitment to the people.

APAC Secretary General Ahmed Sankoh Sheriff announced that full, detailed country scorecards covering governance indices and leadership evaluations across all 54 African Union member states will be published next month.
