A proposed mining waste recovery project in the Okaoko area of the Kunene Region has moved a step forward. Dasanyuan Namibia, a company that proposed a waste recovery project in the area of Okaoko, held a public meeting to consult with residents on its plans to collect discarded tailings for processing at a new factory just seven kilometres outside Opuwo.

The company's Operations Director, Oscar Sheehama, outlined the project's multi-faceted benefits for the locals.

"This will help transform the community in many ways – creating jobs for many locals, helping small-scale mining companies with equipment, and keeping the environment clean by transforming mining waste into economic opportunity."

The company says the project aligns with national value-addition goals.
