The Namibian ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU), Mbapeua Muvangua, has underscored the important role played by media platforms in telling the African narrative.
Speaking recently at the first anniversary of The Pulse of Africa, a digital media company in Sub-Saharan Africa, Muvangua praised the media group for amplifying the African narrative.
Muvangua lamented that media coverage of Africa has always been dominated by narratives of disease outbreaks, poverty, conflict, and political instability.
According to Muvangua, these negative portrayals, rooted in the colonial histories, continue to shape global perceptions and policy decisions, saying media platforms like the Pulse of Africa are welcome to change the narrative.
"I am very, very honoured to wish you 'Pulse of Africa' a happy birthday and also to wish you more success as you continue to fill this vacuum that we have in Africa, especially in our media fraternity. We need to have some stations that not only promote Africa but also promote the aspirations of our continent."
Launched in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, late last year, the Pulse of Africa seeks to change how the world perceives the continent and to instill pride among Africans by reshaping the narratives surrounding Africa.
