The Omaheke Regional Council, in partnership with August Twenty-Six Company, has completed the construction of Tuerijandjera Primary School on the outskirts of Gobabis.
The project, which cost N$28 million, was completed within four months.
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Gobabis, Governor Pijoo Nganate said the government, through the relevant ministry, is committed to ensuring that more schools are built in the region.
He urged the community to play an active role in supporting the school.
"In your search for a principal, I hope that you and your capable staff will find the right person who will ensure that all these facilities are used to their maximum potential. We must leave mediocrity behind. We need to actively seek the right people for Relaight School so that this school, located in a downtrodden community, can become the source of our future professors, doctors, Chief Regional Officers, and finance directors—leaders who come from here, from Kanan C."
Chief Regional Officer Pecka Semba said education is one of the key sectors that can transform countries and societies, adding that the government is investing in the right areas by prioritising education.
"Initially, this school was supposed to be a secondary school according to our records, but it was determined by the head office that it should properly be a primary school. We need two or three more primary schools. I believe that in terms of education projects in the region, we have been doing really well over the past years. I always pass by Drimiopsis, and I see that this project is also progressing well. The governor is also managing the projects well, especially regarding the hostels we have been praying for."
Deputy Education Director Eliakim Kavari said the new school will ease overcrowding at other local schools and contribute to improving the quality of education.
"The project accommodates up to 2,000 learners, and the number is increasing. So I hope that this school will add value to our purpose in terms of providing quality education by reducing the number of cleaners in the classroom.”
The newly constructed primary school will accommodate 980 learners and have a staff complement of 32.
Tuerijandjera Primary School is expected to open in January 2027.
