Residents of Maputa in Mukwe Constituency have appealed to the government to urgently address their water shortages, saying they sometimes go for days without access to clean water.
The residents said the water supply is unreliable, with limited operating hours leaving many households without enough water for drinking, cooking, and livestock.
"Some days we get water, and other days we do not. Sometimes we spend two days without water. The little we get may only be enough for drinking, leaving us without enough to cook for our children," said Outlusiya Fendell.
Albertina Liwana explained that water tanks installed in 2021 remain non-operational, despite repeated appeals to open them.
One resident also offered to purchase the chemicals needed to treat the water in an effort to help resolve the situation.
The water shortages are further compounded by interruptions to the solar-powered systems during the rainy season.
They now appealed to the relevant authorities to investigate the challenges and restore reliable water access to the community.
