The University of Namibia (UNAM) is hosting an Africa Blockchain Research Conference aimed at discussing how blockchain technology can be regulated and used to support innovation across the continent.

Blockchain is a digital system that is used to record, share and manage digital assets, information, money and transactions.

This technology is gradually being explored across Africa to improve how governments, businesses and financial institutions operate and manage virtual assets, information, money and transactions.

Professor Veikko Uahengo the Associate Dean at UNAM's School of Science said, " The conference comes at a time when technological innovation is advancing faster than many of our existing legal and regulatory frameworks.Blockchain technology is increasingly influencing our financial systems, commercial transactions, digital identities, public administration and international trades. Consequently, questions surrounding its legal, recognition, regulations, accountability and the governance have become increasingly important."
