The Namibian Police is fighting another lawsuit alleging physical abuse.

The legal suit emanates from a July 2020 incident that transpired in the Windhoek Single Quarters’ vicinity.

Members of the police stand accused of carrying out a wrongful assault on Erickson Nangolo.

In court papers, Nangolo claims that officers grabbed and choked him by the throat, and in the process obstructed his airways.

He further claims that a group of police officers, including members of the Namibian Defense Force, continued to attack him by kicking him and punching him with closed fists until he lost consciousness.

He is suing for N$200 000, saying he suffered severe injuries, including swelling in his left eye, muscle trauma, bruises, immense chest pain, and headaches that lasted for several days.

Nangolo further says he felt humiliated, degraded, and traumatized.

The Inspector General of the Namibian Police has, through government attorneys, denied the allegations, saying that the plaintiff has not identified the suspected officer.

The police chief has further denied that any physical harm or assault in the form of kicking and hitting the plaintiff with closed fists took place and that the police received no report of the plaintiff losing consciousness.

The matter continues before acting High Court Judge, Phalanda Christiaan.
