An offender at the Karibib Police Station holding cells who alleges police brutality has opened a case of Grievous Bodily Harm.

Tangeni Kandjimi filed the case against two constables stationed at Karibib.

He is alleging that the police officers unlawfully and intentionally assaulted him by kicking, slapping, and hitting his face, whereby he sustained an open wound on his right eye.

He was also showered with a pressure hose pipe, he alleges.

In a handwritten letter to his mother, he also claims to have broken toes.

National police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi has confirmed to nbc News that the alleged assault incident happened on September 28.

The police were conducting a cell search, which included the breakfast feeding of inmates. During the search, some inmates allegedly complained of being sick and demanded to be taken to the clinic. The complainant and two others became disruptive until the complainant threw water into the porridge, which was meant for the inmates' breakfast.

The police further claimed that Kandjimi started insulting the officers and a fight ensued, also allegedly started by Kandjimi.
