The Swapo Party Coordinator in the Erongo Region, Daniel Muhura, has denied allegations that delegates in support of Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah almost disrupted the party's internal election campaign at Swakopmund.
Muhura says the party's internal campaign for the three top positions, which is not open to the media, was concluded peacefully.
As the date for the party's upcoming congress next month is fast approaching, candidates vying for three top positions are all out to canvass support from the delegates.
Nine candidates are vying for the positions of Vice President, Secretary General, and Deputy Secretary General.
The Erongo Swapo Coordinator says the Central Committee has decided to do away with candidates hosting rallies but rather give them an opportunity to present to the congress delegates from each region.
"The challenge that you might or that we found in the process is that you have nine candidates that you are dealing with, and everyone has to present himself or herself in front of the delegates for an hour before the next candidate has to take over. One hour per presentation and you have eight hours per day. So that in itself is a challenge, but it's a good thing for the party. As I alluded to earlier, in order to keep unity and promote democracy within the party. The success is that we managed. It's the first of its kind, but we successfully managed to conclude the whole event in a day," explained Muhura.
A message circulating on social media accused the regional coordinator of favouring Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah at the presentations.
Moreover, it is alleged that her supporters endangered the lives of others because they were unruly.
But Muhura denied these allegations, maintaining that the event promoted unity and concluded successfully.
