At least nineteen people died after a commercial flight operated by Precision Air crash-landed in Lake Victoria in Tanzania this morning.

Earlier on, nbc News spoke to Anna Mwasyoke, the acting News Editor at the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation.

The flight had taken off from Tanzania's commercial capital of Dar es Salaam and was headed to the city of Bukoba before it plunged into Lake Victoria as it was approaching the airport.

One end of the runway at Bukoba airport lies right next to the shore of Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake.

According to the police commander in Bukoba, the plane crashed due to bad weather and fog.

Rescue workers and local fishermen were trying to reach those trapped.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has expressed her condolences to those affected and called for calm.
