Heavy rains associated with a storm have caused damage to houses, especially in the informal settlements of Katima Mulilo.

The rain affected the supply of electricity to the town of Katima Mulilo and caused damage to houses in the informal settlements, with the Chotto compound being the worst affected.

Thomas Simataa, a resident of Choto's informal settlement, explains his experience. "When we saw that the electricity had gone off, we immediately informed Nored, and they said that they had already received the report. But we haven't seen them since this morning. We noticed that the other house fell down due to heavy winds."

Several electricity poles were uprooted, some falling on top of houses. 

Zita Nyambe told the nbc News team that when the roof of her house was blown off, her belongings were soaked in water.

Nyambe's two children had to miss school on Tuesday after their clothes, books, and food got wet from the heavy rains.

"When yesterday's wind started, we were inside the house, and the corrugated iron sheets of the house were flipping over and getting blown off due to the strong wind, and some of them were falling off. I then went to my neighbor's house. The rain was pouring on us, and that's when other neighbors came to help me; they took some of my belongings to their houses."

Some street vendors were fortunate not to sustain injuries after a tree branch fell on top of the shop under which they were operating.
