The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) has donated medical equipment that were confiscated, to the Ministry of Health and Social Services.
The equipment worth N$64 000 comprises hospital beds, stethoscopes and medical gowns. The medical equipment were among the goods confiscated from customers who failed to declare them after a 90-day grace period.

NamRa's Regional Manager for Customs Operation, Central Region, Abner David explained that the agency does not destroy all the goods confiscated, only those that can cause harm if used. 
David explained that once the grace period expires, NamRA has the responsibility to apply for the goods to become state property. 

"When you are importing goods to Namibia the law provides for you to declare those goods within seven days, if you are unable to pay or provide the required permits, the goods are detained by customs, by law the goods are only supposed to be there for 90 days and after, the goods are forfeited to the state of which NamRA has the responsibility to apply for the gods to become state property."

The Acting Executive Director at the Ministry of Health, Jeremia Nghipundjwa received the donation. 

"On behalf of the MoHSS we accept these donations and at the same time, thank NamRA for remembering the ministry."

This is not the first time this year that NamRA is donating confiscated goods. It has also donated confiscated goods in the ||Kharas, Erongo and Otjozondjupa regions.
