Retired Professor Rehabeam Katengela Auala died on Friday in Windhoek at the age of 76.

His death was announced in a statement issued by the family on Saturday. 

The late Professor Emeritus Auala had an impressive record spanning over four decades. He started out his career as a teacher trained at Ongwediva College, moved up the ladder as a teacher, and retired as a professor in Educational Management and Administration. 

Professor Emeritus Auala was also the founding chairperson of Namibia's Advisory Council on Education.

He also served as a member of the National Council for Higher Education, representing the University of Namibia.

Auala, who retired as a UNAM academic, taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

He also worked at an international level in the United States as a teaching fellow.

Apart from being an accomplished academic, author, and co-author of academic literature, among other academic and professional positions, Auala was also a staunch Swapo Party member and served as a member of the Swapo Party’s Elders Council, as well as in the Central Committee and Secretariat. 

Mukwaita Shanyengana, Secretary of the Swapo Party’s Elders Council, said his death was a huge loss to the Swapo Party, especially the Elders Council’s wing.

He described the late professor Auala as a dedicated, honest, straightforward, and committed cadre who had a vested interest in molding the party’s youth.

Auala was the son of the first Namibian Bishop of ELCIN, Leonard Auala. 

He leaves behind his wife, Hilma Auala, and three children.

The arrangements for the funeral and memorial service are yet to be announced.
