Meanwhile, the Police Officers implicated in the death of Elleste Plaatjies were remanded in police custody following their brief court appearance in the Keetmanshoop magistrate's Court. 

The officers, attached to the Police Special Reserve Force, Bernard Mulisa and Wilbard Neshuku aged thirty-one and twenty-five years old respectively, were charged with murder and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. 

State Prosecutor Lewis Chigunwe opposed granting bail to the suspects. 

He argued that the police investigation is still at an early stage and that it was not in the interest of justice to grant them bail. 

Chigunwe also opposed bail on grounds that the suspects may abscond  as well as the public outcry over the death of Plaatjies at the hands of police 

Presiding Magistrate Lischen Konjore denied the suspects bail and advised them to lodge a formal bail application. 

It is alleged that the officers booted Plaatjies and Jason Jansen, after they stopped and searched them and found them in possession of a bankie of skunk cannabis.

The suspects will return to court on 30 January. 

The Family members of Plaatjies are happy that the court has denied the two police officers bail and expressed their gratitude towards Keetmanshoop residents for their support during this difficult period.
