Carican Investment, a Netherland-based health service provider plans on establishing new healthcare centers throughout the country, to complement existing public health centers.

Speaking at a one-day workshop, John Carstens, a Manager at Carican Investment said the company aims to offer universal healthcare coverage, as enshrined in the UN charter, with a special focus on primary healthcare.

Carstens said Africa is one of the biggest focus areas to build primary healthcare community centers to provide quality outcomes and affordable reimbursement structures. He believes that can only be achieved in collaboration with the government.

The initiative's focus is remote areas.
According to Carstens the project will build its own clinics, with the first two to be piloted at Rundu and Oshakati, before expanding to other parts of the country.

Namibia has been earmarked as the first country with plans to expand to other countries. 

Health and Social Services Deputy Minister Dr. Utjiua Muinjangue hopes this new initiative will complement the government's vision of ensuring easy access to healthcare in rural areas.

Explained that rural residents often encounter challenges to accessing healthcare that limits their ability to obtain the care they need, accesses to healthcare implies that healthcare services are available and otainable in a timely manner, yet citizens in remote areas often encounter a lot of challenges and barriers to access healthcare services.

The Carican healthcare initiative is already operational in Tanzania, Mozambique and Malawi.

The clinics will be fully equipped with health professionals undertaking visits to remote areas to screen people for various ailments.
