27 dependents of former and current members of the Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN) will receive bursaries to further their studies at different institutions.

This follows the launch of a Direct Strategy by the Mineworkers Union of Namibia, Namibia Miners Investment, and NAMMIC Investment Holdings.

The benefit strategy will focus on facilitating access to finance for micro- and small-medium businesses owned by current and former members as well as improving basic financial literacy among beneficiaries.

"The fund will prioritize the support of those dependents who are particularly vulnerable, such as orphans and those who hail from low-income single-parent households; the fund will only support eligible individuals' registration fees for entry into the first year or years of undergraduate study," explained Kalumbu Mayamelo, the president of MUN.

The Union targets awarding bursaries to 100 students.
