Swapo Party Vice President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has called for unity among party members ahead of next year's Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Addressing a rally at Katima Mulilo, Nandi-Ndaitwah says last year's Swapo Party Congress is unique, urging members to draw strength from it.
Nandi-Ndaitwah said she is looking forward to a healthy relationship with all the party members and supporters and is ready to perform to the best of her abilities if elected as the country's president.
"I am submitting myself to you, party members and Namibians, to say I am now your product to sell the nation come 2024 elections. And I believe that with you carrying me around, we will emerge victorious, and together we must ensure inclusive development and shared prosperity in Namibia. We have enough ground to build on and enough foundations to make sure that shared prosperity becomes a reality in our country."
Nandi-Ndaitwah also spoke about the persistent socio-economic challenges that Namibians face, which need to be addressed.
She also stated that party members are expected to rally behind the candidates elected at the 7th Congress without regard for who supported whom and to recruit new members.
"Therefore, we call upon all of us to embrace genuine unity at all times. We must know that the Swapo Party prohibits discrimination, racism, sexism, and all forms of discrimination. Let us fight against such tendencies and embrace one another. I, therefore, call on all of us comrades to put internal campaigns aside and focus as one on the bigger picture of strengthening our party in order to move to the highest levels and perform well in the 2024 Presidential and National Elections, as well as the 2025 Regional and Local Authority Elections and beyond."
She emphasized that as a female presidential candidate, she requires support not only because she is female, but also because of the qualities she possesses.
