Local boxer Jonas Junias Jonas has been cleared by the organisers of the Commonwealth games to compete Gold Coast, Australia from the 4th to 15th of April. Jonas made international headlines after been accused of sexually harassing a domestic worker at the Olympic village in Brazil during the 2016 Olympics. During that event, he also served as Namibia's flag bearer. Sharing the news with the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation was the secretary general of the Namibia National Olympic Committee, Joan Smit who also confirmed that Jonas already received his visa to enter Australia. "He is in perfect shape and we are very proud that he can finally get into the games and show the nation that he is still one of our elite and top boxers" Smit said. Jonas is now preparing for the Commonwealth games . " We are waiting to hear from Rio, but at this point I can confirm to you that we received confirmation from the lawyers that Jonas is free to participate in the Commonwealth Games. The Commonwealth Games Federation has no problem with him participating and neither do the Australian authorities" The boxer who hails from the coastal town of Swakopund collected a Silver medal at the 2014 games in Glasgow, losing out on a Gold medal to Josh Taylor in the 64kg light welter weight final. Jonas, Matias Hamunyela and new comer Try-Again Ndevelo will be the three boxers who are set to keep the hopes of Namibians alive.
