Windhoek - Excitement was running high among learners and teachers at the launch of the Michelle Mclean Primary School Mini- World Cup which took place at the Chairman Mao Zedong High School on Tuesday, June 26, 2018. The tournament which will place on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the Ramblers Sports Ground , is expected to attract 40 schools from the Khomas region. Each school will be represented by 15 players under the age of 13. They will take part in a 5 –a – side tournament which uses the World cup format of group stages, and elimination rounds. The purpose of the mini – world cup is to raise funds for the establishment of a sports field, and mix use courts for Netball, Volleyball, Basketball because the current facilities are not safe. The school also intends to ensure that these facilities will be open to the community of Otjomuise who are poorly equipped in terms of recreational facilities. The Michelle Mclean Primary school receive a major boast with a sponsorship of N$50,000 by the Chinese Embassy in Namibia. The Osona Village developers also contributed N$50,000 towards the event. Dignitaries including the Special Adviser of the to the Governor of the Khomas region, Ms. Mwashekele -Sibiya; The Chinese Ambassador, Ambassador, His, Excellency, Mr. Zhang Yiming, the Mayor of Windhoek, Muzee Kazapua, the Director of the Education in the Khomas Region, Mr. Vries, and embers of the school board, attended the launch. The winner will be presented with medals and a trophy.
