Francistown-Team Namibia continued its chase of winning the 2018 COSSASA Athletics in Botswana as they added more medals to their total medals of 22 collected on Day 1.Having ended Day One with a total of 22 medals which included 10 gold, 9 silver and 3 bronze Team Namibia continue to dominate the field events as expected. On Day 2 Namibia's medals came from Gia Dresselhaus in the Boys Under 17 110m hurdles in a time of 14.69seconds. Also contributing to Namibia's medal tally were Kaylan Hays with a silver and Shawn Aupindi with gold in the 80m hurdles in the Boys Under-13 category. There was more delight for Namibia in the Discuss Girls U13 throw with Leane Boshoff and Jorinda Fourie collecting gold and silver respectively. That was followed up by the Girls under 14 discuss throw with another gold and silver from Crisel Jenkins and Tuane Silver. More gold was added when Chriseline Klein help herself with a jump of 5.50m in the girls Under-15 long jump. It was then the turn of Karlien Botha with another gold medal in the girls under 17 shot put reaching a distance of 12.46m. The biggest gold medal for Team Namibia on Day 2 came from Ivan Geldenhuys in the boys under 17 400m sprint in a time of 47.73seconds.0 Natalie Louw added another silver medal in the girls under 17 long jump with a distance of 5.66m. At the end of Day 2 Namibia was leading the medal count with 21 gold, 18 silver and 15 bronze for a total of 54 medals over two days. In second place is Zimbabwe with 19 gold, 20 silver and 14 bronze for a total of 53 medals followed by hosts Botswana on 11 gold, 19 silver and 26 bronze for 56 medals in total. If Namibia can collect 3 or 4 gold in the 200m, and 800m finals and relays today they can dethrone Zimbabwe who has won the COSSASA Athletics for the past three years.
