NDF annual Sport tournament kicks off

Windhoek-The annual NDF sports tournament was launched today, with six sport codes taking part in the event at the Sam Nujoma stadium and the Katutura Sports Complex in Windhoek on Monday. Since its inception in 2013 the NDF annual sports tournament usually takes place on the national NDF day, which is the second of June. Due to financial constraints over the years, however, the tournament failed to kick off on the scheduled date. The different units from the NDF had a parade this morning, with participants making their way to the Sam Nujoma Stadium with the assistance of the city police. Speaking at the launch, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Sinsy Bamba told the athletes to take this chance and use it fully. “To all sports participants, you must seize this opportunity to show case your talent and market yourself by showing that you are worthy of representing the NDF and Namibia as a whole at nation, regional and international level sport event” Bamba said. 1600 participants from different regions will take part in six sport codes namely Football, Volleyball, Boxing, Pool table, Marathon and Netball in the weeklong tournament. “Let me wish you all the best during the duration of the tournament and to remind you that , although we are here to compete, our competition is a friendly one, so discipline and sportsmanship spirit both on and of the pitch should prevail throughout this tournament” he added. Entrance is free of charge at all venues and tight security is reinforced by the Namibian police force. The NDF sport tournament will end on the 6th of August 2018 culminating in an award ceremony with trophies, medals and cash prices for all athletes who take part in this year’s tournament.
