Wrestling clinic teaches skills and values

The five-day long wrestling coaching clinic, which is held under the auspices of United World Wrestling Coaches, is still ongoing in Windhoek, with participants gaining valuable experience at the forum. More than 20 wrestling coaches' from all across the country are currently attending a wrestling coaching clinic, which is being held at the after-school care centre in Windhoek's Grysblok area. The coaching clinic aims to promote the sport of wrestling at grassroots level, provide educational tools through wrestling which foster cognitive development, teaches social behaviour and helps to integrate communities. When NBC Sport arrived at the event, it was noticeable that only men are attending the coaching clinic. The team thus spoke to Namibia Wrestling Federation Secretary General Johannes Homateni about this. “The participant they were supposed to be 14 regions, due to work commitment they pull out now they are currently twenty-five including the Khomas, they were also four ladies females who supposed to take part but at the last minutes they also withdraw, that is a pity they also wanted to be part of this coaching clinic “said Homateni. NBC Sport also interviewed participants to talk in more detail about the experience. ”We learn a lot of technics how to do wrestling and how good it is for self defence and also using sport to change the life of young people” noted Jeremy Kasume a wrestler from Otjozondjupa region. “Is a basic that the coach must start learning from that we can make true the practical with the children. This is best, best opportunity we have in a moment it is very good for all this young coach starting now in the different regions for develop wrestling in the country” said head coach Luis Forcelledo. The coaching clinic started on Monday the 19th of February and will end on the 23rd of this month.
