A N$70,000 donation from Swakop Uranium is set to support Ovahimba community women-owned businesses living at the foot of the Brandberg Mountain.

Swakop Uranium Chief Executive Officer Luo Wei hailed the work of the media in light of the World Press Freedom Day celebration.

He said the media remains a critical partner in promoting transparency, accountability and informed public dialogue within the mining sector.

NamWater and Swakop Uranium have signed a joint-venture agreement to develop a new large-scale desalination plant in the Erongo Region.

The desalination plant is aimed at strengthening the country's long-term water security and supporting industrial growth.

Swakop Uranium workers are at loggerheads with the company over benefits under the continuous operation shift arrangement.

The company is exempt from the labour law that allows workers to operate 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

The initiative is aimed at transforming the lives of vulnerable communities through sustainable livestock farming.
