Family receives new national documents after losing everything in shack fire

A family from Windhoek's Hakahana Residential Area, who lost their national documents in a shack fire this month, were issued with new national documents at no cost by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security in Windhoek.

Recalling the ordeal which happened on Independence Day, 33-year-old Fransina Hamunyela says no one was at home at the time of the fire.

They lost most of their belongings and documents in the blaze.

Potential graduates from the University of Namibia (UNAM) who are in arrears are currently unable to obtain their qualification certificates or academic transcripts.

This has caused concern among many students who are scheduled to graduate next month, as they worry about the impact of their university debt on their future prospects.

Previously, Unam allowed potential graduates to access their qualification certificates and academic transcripts even if they were in arrears, provided that they cleared their debt before receiving their official documents.

Sisa Namandje Foundation Scholarship advertisement attracts large number of applicants

The Sisa Namandje Foundation Scholarship advertisement that was sent out early this year has attracted more than 300 applicants.

The 13 recipients will be assisted with tuition fees, accommodations, and other basic needs.

This came about when the Foundation identified the need to provide tertiary students with financial assistance for their studies.

Taimi Iileka-Amupanda, a board member of the foundation, says it proved difficult to choose 13 students out of the 300 prospects, as they all require assistance.

In celebration of its 128 anniversary, the Woermann Brock "We Care Trust' donated N$300 000 to 12 beneficiaries in need of financial assistance.

The Trust supports communities in surrounding areas of all Woermann Brock Stores and assists organizations that actively work towards helping those in need.

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula in his keynote address commended the supermarket for providing assistance to those who need it most.
