The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has refuted allegations of corruption and inefficiency within the Namibian public service, following claims made by its staff member, Lolo Sylvester Goraseb.

An employee at the Office of the Prime Minister, Lolo Goraseb, stood in chains as he conducted a lone demonstration following the failure of the office to honour all remedies spelt out in his reinstatement order by the Labour Commissioner. 

The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has confirmed that 1,485 households out of the 28,485 Oshikoto Region drought beneficiary households, will not receive a 50kg bag of rice as the region only received 27,000 bags.

The Office of the Prime Minister needs N$600 million to sustain the drought relief programme until June this year.

So far the office has received donations amounting to more than N$115 million, which include cash and in-kind donations.

The Office of the Prime Minister has sworn in Michael Mutonga and Habatte Doeses as Public Service Commissioners, filling two long-standing vacancies in the Public Service Commission structures.

Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila says the government is looking into farmers' requests for livestock support programmes as part of the drought relief efforts.

A team of officials from the office of the Prime Minister and Aminuis Councillor concluded a two-day rapid assessment of the possible looming drought in the Omaheke Region.

The assessment is also expected to come up with a comprehensive report.
