Progress on National Sex Offenders' Register

The Minister of Justice, Yvonne Dausab, says the ministry has made progress with regards to draft legislation on a National Sex Offenders' Register.

Dausab is hopeful that the existence of such a register could deter would-be sexual offenders.

Two years ago, President Hage Geingob promised during his State of the Nation Address that the government would enact a National Sex Offenders Register and a Child Justice Bill within twelve months.

Biometric data needed for customers to access MTC services

MTC has reiterated that customers who wish to continue using the services provided by the mobile giant must provide their biometric data during the registration of their SIM cards.

MTC's insistence comes in contrast to the stance taken by the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN), which clarified that the capture of biometric data would not be mandatory for SIM card registrations.

Despite the directive issued by CRAN on Friday, MTC remains firm in its position.

Keetmanshoop residents called to register sim cards

The Chairperson of the Keetmanshoop Municipal Management Committee, Johannes Vries, has called on the Keetmanshoop residents to make use of the MTC outreach campaign to register their sim cards.

The mobile operator will be in Keetmanshoop for three days.

Given the high rate of cybercrime, voluntary sim card registration comes with security benefits as it helps to prevent identity theft and phone-based fraud.

The national SIM card registration was launched by CRAN last year.
