Finance Minister meets financial sector leaders on budget

The Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Iipumbi Shiimi, engaged key industry players in the financial sector to discuss the implications of the recently tabled national budget. 

The focus of the discussion was on unlocking opportunities and creating an environment conducive for businesses to flourish.

One of the key highlights of the budget includes the allocation of funds towards essential public goods such as infrastructure, electricity, and roads.

MPs Laud Finance Minister's Budget Increment

Members of Parliament have commended the Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Iipumbu Shiimi, for his efforts in presenting a substantial increment in this year's national budget. 

However, some are concerned about the inadequacy of the allocated funds for old-age grants and the absence of dedicated financial provisions and employment opportunities.

In her contribution to the Appropriation Bill, PDM's Elma Dienda emphasised the impact of the late president Hage Geingob's vision, which brought hope to senior citizens dependent on the old age grant for survival. 

Finance Minster to table 2024-2025 budget

The Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Ipumbu Shiimi, will table the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2024-2025 in the National Assembly tomorrow at 14:30.

The national budget encompasses government revenue, expenditure, and borrowing strategies, as well as pivotal policy priorities.

The ministry is, however, worried about an expected decrease in Southern African Customs Union (SACU) revenue, one of its major sources of income.

The Deputy Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Maureen Hinda-Mbuende, has called on Chief Executive Officers to ensure that Boards of Directors are accountable for funds wasted on unconstructive labour issues.

Maureen Hinda-Mbuende was speaking at the annual general meeting of the Public Enterprises Chief Executive Officers at Rietfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region.
