Michael Amushelelo and Dimbulukweni Nauyoma acquitted

Magistrate Linus Samunzala has acquitted activists Michael Amushelelo and Dimbulukeni Nauyoma of all charges, citing poor quality and multiple contradictions in the evidence of state witnesses.

Amushelelo had spent close to seven months in incarceration since his arrest for independence this year.

The activist, along with Nauyoma and Inna Hengari, were arrested and faced several charges, including malicious damage to property.

A movement calling for the immediate release of arrested activist Michael Amushelelo is growing on social media.

Amushelelo was arrested on Namibia’s 33rd Independence Day.

Amushelelo, together with fellow activist Dimbulukeni Nauyoma and PDM lawmaker Inna Hengari, were arrested by the Namibian police after they arrived at the scene of a gathered crowd that had been mobilised to stage a protest against unemployment.

Increase in violence against children in Namibia a concern- Hengari

In a recent parliamentary session, the Popular Democratic Movement's (PDM) MP, Inna Hengari, expressed deep concern about the increasing violence against children in Namibia.

In simple terms, violence means hurting someone on purpose, either physically or emotionally.

Hengari highlighted that despite the laws and policies in place to protect children, reports of them being abused, raped, and subjected to violence have become distressingly common in Namibia.
