Namibian police have reported seven suicides across the country during the New Year period.

The incidents occurred between December 31 and January 4.

Residents of Omaruru have threatened to occupy unserviced land, saying the municipality has failed to address their grievances.

These include a lack of affordable land and housing, development, employment opportunities, and improved living standards.

75-year-old Ngheendati Mwashindange, who was born at Ohakafiya Village in the Epembe constituency of the Ohangwena Region in 1949, has returned home after five decades.

Mwashindange left his father's homestead at the age of 26 in 1975 to look for contract work in Ondangwa.
