The Deputy Secretary of the Swapo Party Youth League, Christine Haindaka, has been sworn in as a Member of Parliament this morning.

Swapo Party President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, said lawmakers elected on the party's ticket have no reason not to coordinate their work and deliver quality services to the people.

Vice President Lucia Witbooi has stressed the importance of lawmakers understanding the challenges faced by persons with disabilities and their caregivers.

She stressed the urgent need to accelerate discussions about increasing the disability grant, which currently stands at N$1,600.

Lawmakers in the National Council debated the new Marriage Bill, raising concerns about allowing an 18-year-old to marry, citing potential risks to their education and maturity levels.

The bill, aimed at regulating marriages and validating certain unions, ignited intense discussion from several fronts.

Political analyst Dr. Ndumba Kamwanyah has commended the parliamentary standing committees' oversight visits, which he said provided a platform for ordinary citizens to give their input and raise concerns on matters of bread and butter.
