The 9th Southern African Development Community-SADC Industrial Week has concluded in Durban, South Africa, with the region agreeing to accelerate industrialisation.

As Southern Africa braces for the looming El Niño in the 2026/2027 farming season, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is applauding grassroots efforts in Zambia that could inspire resilience across the SADC region. 

Botswana and South Africa have resolved to accelerate implementation of projects, programmes, and initiatives classified as high-impact priority projects, as they are strategic to broader regional integration.

The Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) has urged regional vigilance and complete cooperation in response to the ongoing devastation caused by the highly virulent foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in the SADC region.

Erongo Governor Neville Andre says the region is strategically located and remains an active hub of economic development as it houses key industries such as the fishing sector, mining, logistics, and transport, as well as tourism.

Namibia is leading the way in the implementation of Green Hydrogen in the SADC region.

During the Green Hydrogen Symposium held in Windhoek, industry players emphasized that the success of Green Hydrogen demand in SADC relies on the collaboration between countries.

Between January and November 2023, 183 crimes were committed against women and children in the Kavango West Region. 

The region has now joined the rest of the country in carrying out "Operation Basadi," targeting wanted persons for violence against women, children, and the elderly.

The Erongo Governor says that the African continent is estimated to be losing about N$750 billion annually—money that could have been used for development through illicit financial flows and other forms of organised crime.
