Maternity-related complications account for the largest share of blood usage in Namibia, underscoring the urgent need for more regular blood donors.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) has recommitted to strengthening systems that will ensure safe, effective, and sustainable blood transfusion service. 

The commitment was made at the opening of the Africa Society for Blood Transfusion 12th International Congress in Windhoek. 

Namibia's Blood Transfusion Services (NamBTS) is grappling with a severe shortage of blood and blood products, posing a significant challenge for patients in hospitals and medical centres across the country.
