Flashfloods continue to affect more people at Katima Mulilo as heavy rains persist and malaria cases surge in the Zambezi Region.

Sixty-one households have been relocated to temporary shelters since the beginning of the year.

The number is expected to rise as the rain persists.

Zambezi Health Director Woita Kapumburu says malaria cases have continued to increase weekly in the region since the beginning of March.

Kapumburu made the remarks at Nakabolelwa, the seat of the Kabbe South Constituency, where a belated TB Day was commemorated today.

Namibia is currently facing a significant rise in malaria cases, with over 5,000 reported between December 2024 and January 2025, resulting in 28 deaths.

The outbreak is particularly severe in the northern regions, with districts like Eenhana, Okongo, and Engela being the most affected.

Oshakati Hospital higher malaria cases

A total of 29 malaria cases were reported at the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital in December 2023.

This is a stark increase of 25 cases over the same month last year.
