The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has marked its 51st anniversary with a call for collective action to confront insecurity, unconstitutional government changes, climate change, and economic challenges across West Africa.

Ghana is celebrating 69 years of independence, marking the country's freedom from British colonial rule. The West African nation became the first in sub-Saharan Africa to break free from colonial rule when it gained independence on the 6th of March, 1957.

Ghana is set to receive several West African nationals who were deported from the U.S., President John Mahama has said.

This is after the U.S. authorities approached the Ghanaian government to accept third-party nationals as part of the Trump administration's clampdown on illegal immigration.
