The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism has recorded 1,2 million hectares of land burnt by wildfires, totalling 1,300 fire outbreaks countrywide in 2025.
 

The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) has recorded 1,2 million hectares of land burnt by wildfires, totalling 1,300 fire outbreaks countrywide in 2025.

Aerial operations continued for a fifth straight day on Wednesday to battle wildfires sweeping through the Franschhoek Valley in South Africa's Cape Winelands.

The Minister of Environment, Forestry and Tourism says an assessment is underway to determine the full extent of the damage caused by the wildfires in Etosha National Park. 

The fires in Etosha National Park are nearly fully contained.

Only four areas in the National Park currently have active fires, which are not extensive.
